The school was established through the efforts of Prof. Alalade Adekunle (Former Vice Chancellor) and Prof. James Kayode Makinde (Committee Chairman and Former Vice Chancellor).

Beginning as a private coaching class in 1994 due to nationwide school closures, BUHS officially opened on 26 January 1995 with 14 students. In 1999, it was renamed Babcock University High School after university status was granted.
